The partnership between EFNEP and the Food Bank of the Albemarle in Pasquotank County started about 37 years ago. This long-standing relationship was highlighted at the Statewide Extension Conference earlier this month with a poster highlighting key moments of the partnership.

Consistent efforts toward growing the partnership into what it is today began in 1997. In the earliest days, EFNEP educators provided education while neighbors waited in their cars to pick up food. Over time, classes moved into indoor teaching spaces. This approach ensured that the immediate food needs of neighbors were met while empowering them to make healthier choices. In 2023, the Food Bank of the Albemarle completed a large-scale renovation which included the addition of a modern Teaching Kitchen. This is a place for individuals and families to gather to enjoy food, learn new recipes, fellowship together, and focus on healthy eating. EFNEP educators utilize the space to lead group education classes.

The partnership between EFNEP and Food Bank of the Albemarle continues to grow with the addition of on-site raised garden beds, hydroponic garden system and a mobile, compact kitchen unit. The future is bright with possibility!
