Ngaire Van Eck Professional Development Award Winner - Chrissy Barbery

Dr. Ngaire van Eck served as EFNEP Coordinator in North Carolina from 1989 until her retirement in 1997. She moved to North Carolina after a teaching career abroad in her native land of New Zealand. Following her retirement, she established an endowment fund in 1999. This award specifically honors outstanding EFNEP Educators who aim to enhance their programming through professional development. Funds are used to support approved professional development opportunities.

This year’s Ngaire Van Eck Award goes to Chrissy Barbery, EFNEP Educator in Halifax County.

Chrissy embodies the spirit of the award through her dedication and professional growth. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Family and Community Services at East Carolina University. Chrissy exceeded her impacts and adult outreach targets while pursuing her degree. Her academic excellence, including the Spring 2025 Dean's List, and her plans for a graduate degree in Adult Education, demonstrate exceptional personal development. Chrissy's tireless commitment to professional advancement and community impact makes her truly deserving of this award, which will support her important academic pursuits.
