Mac, an EFNEP educator in Durham County, has teamed up with the program Welcome Baby to help local families with young children learn valuable life skills. While families visit the Welcome Baby center for support with expenses and education for their infants and toddlers, Mac sets up a "Food Lab." Using EFNEP's Families Eat Smart and Moving More curriculum, he teaches participants how to add more fresh vegetables to their diet, save money on groceries, and master new cooking techniques.

In a recent lesson focused on nutritious soups for fall, families worked together to prepare and taste a variety of soups, including cheddar broccoli, minestrone, pumpkin, and lentil. The room was filled with the delicious smells of fall, and children enjoyed working side-by-side with their mothers and grandmothers, creating a warm and engaging learning environment. This partnership not only provides essential resources to families but also fosters healthy eating habits and stronger community bonds.
